<Some folks want these stocks lower and have done quite a job of it>

Who and why? I have guesses but do not like to go with conspiracy theories. <G> Besides the sector is so small would the big money boyz even care?
Besides two of mine that are down with what I consider having the characteristics you described
<the fact that those companies now have much larger ore bodies and more cash than the last time that they sold at these prices when the POG was half of what it is today>

have very low short interest almost negligible. So how and why are they getting cranked lower?

My guess through regular market S&P 500 dow and nasdaq rotation people have not made money for a few years and through rotation stocks are getting taken to the woodshed group by group although the dow and nasdaq stay levitated. This has caused margin calls and a darth of capital to throw at "riskier stocks" like juniors. So more sellers than buyers and it has fed upon itself resulting in lower prices and a feeling of funk and because the juniors have risen so many times to be beaten down hard and brutal after each rise investors are now shying away making it a self perpetuating funk. BWDIK.

If so what catalyst is going to bring back interest to this Sad Sack sector?* The seniors of course are an animal of their own.

*Set in the United States Army, Sad Sack depicted an otherwise unnamed, lowly private experiencing some of the absurdities and humiliations of military life.
