OK, so we get rid of the lobbyists and respond to the will of the people, who want no part of it. Same result, just no middleman.

Oh, I completely disagree. Some lobbyist represent the people as you say - but I think most represent corporate America and what is good for these lobbyist is often bad for America.

Karen -

If the majority of the people in a survey say that they either support something or are undecided, then I don't see how you can definitively say they want no part of it.

I think people in this country have been fed a lot of negative propaganda about "socialized medicine" and thus many have formed a very negative opinion of it.

Give them a concrete proposal to consider, and you might get a different result, particularly if that proposal retains personal choice about medical care. Of course any proposal will be met by massive opposition and advertising by companies that are making large profits in the current system.
