The general shouldn't be testifying in the first place. It should be Bush, Cheney and the Secretary of Defense.

Medals. The Army requires you to wear your medals. It isn't a choice. However, the guys who become generals are the sort who would wear them if they were not forced to do so. I have always felt that medals were like temporary promotions: something they give you instead of money. I always preferred the latter. <G>

Once you reach field grade, you get medals for things you didn't even do, as long as your unit was involved. And, since your outfit has more bodies the higher in rank you go, you get a lot of medals.

You have to be in combat to reach the top ranks, which is why career officers tend to urge new wars. It would devastate the military promotion machine to have 30 years of peace.

My favorite medal was The National Defense Medal, which you received for being in the service. That sure made you feel special and deserving. <G>
