I don't think the military, an org. for war, should share a campus geared to learning. Its an aesthetic contradiction IMO.

A way of saying anything military is unclean. Defense of the nation is a valid and honorable thing.

What about law enforcement people? Should they be kept out of universities too? They carry guns and may kill people if needed.

By 1876, the authorized size for the American army was 27k. For a country the size we were then, that's a pretty small army and is typical of more pacifistic states:


Yeah, and you can pretend the nation was pacifist if you ignore the preceding civil war and the then ongoing Indian wars, the upcoming Spanish-American war and Philippine Insurrection plus all the Latin American interventions.
