I've spent most of my life drifting between what are essentially jocks and nerds since high school days. My intellectual pursuits have been mainly technical so when I get time to relax I don't generally spend it reading (although I keep buying them with an intent to read them) but doing outdoor things that are usually considered blue collar, like shooting, fishing, hunting or restoring antique outboards. I agree with you - the blue collars types will drop whatever they're doing and help you right now - the intellectuals need to check their calendars and ask their wives. :-)
