You gotta read my "T-totally stupid remark" again. I don't think I said what you think I said.

"last 8 years have been far more challenging"

Well, the 9/11 attack offered more OPPORTUNITIES for the U.S. to open dialogues with the rest of the World than any other recent happening. It also offered an opportunity to DESTROY al Queada once and for all. If we had gone into Afghanistan with our OWN forces and blocked al Queada and the Taliban from retreating into Pakistan rather than trying to do everything on the cheap and enlisting Northern Alliance Warlords to do the job for us, we could have contained everything rather than just moving the problem to Pakistan.

We could have used a quick and resounding success in Afghanistan to take advantage of Iran's attempts to "make nice", but we just blew that off. We instead just arrogantly went into Iraq without even consulting the experts and turned our opportunities into CHALLENGES..

"Bush inherited the worst mess of any President in modern times"

Were the budget surpluses the CRUX of the problem?
