Truman wasn't crazy about using "the bomb" on the Japanese. If the Russians hadn't been "lurking" he might have held off for quite a while.

I doubt that he would have used it on the Germans. The Japanese were considered an "inferior warlike Asian people" but the Germans were Europeans, just like the rest of us.

It's impossible to really tell WHAT he would have done, but I'm pretty sure that the European War could easily have stretched out a couple more years if D-Day had been a disaster.

I was just using D-Day as an example.
