There is inefficiency inherent in 3G, WCDMA technologies that builds up from how spectrum is structured and utilized and contributes through how data is organized, transmitted and amplified in higher order layers including integration with distributed smart networking and data structures. Without value in the methodology of 3G. It is not just a matter of the pucking cellular operators perspective. Screw the bunch of 'em if they wish to treat their public franchise to spectrum as a dark-age archetype. The benefits of adopting a new paradigm is unavoidable.. either they lead, follow or get dumped over the cliff. Some may not like competition, that is always the case when new trends overtake older chains of constructs.

The problem with 3G networks is that it is fundamentally wasteful and inefficient of being further leveraged.

WiMAX or LTE converged with more unified device interface and broadly enabled applications and services in a development environment that leverages across disciplines and segments compels an open network. "Resistance is futile"

"The network is (becomes) the computer (environment)", and a network not enabled of spectrum scavenging wireless technology is a dinosaur. It may be decades before old methods die but they will.
