It's been called the war on drugs. The ability to conduct studies has been sharply restricted by our government. The only materials that are allowed to be used for study are to be supplied by the fed itself. If and when any studies have been allowed at all. And those have been few and far between. As for the "liberal press." Frankly for anyone in politics to push for medical marijuana has been considered "political death." So everyone looks away. This senseless war just might have cost thousands of lives to cancer.
