1 - if i had no food, getting hysterical would not help matters. and someone used to living that near the breaking point of survival (just what i know of it and said people) are seldom given to hysterics. there is too much work to be done to survive to indulge such a thing.

2 - of course there are things i find simply... silly. the earth made in 6 days? come on now. but there is a manner of addressing people who take such beliefs deeply in a manner that gives respect and a manner to address them that addresses them as idiots not worth talking with about anything. it doesn't get us anywhere to call even an idea, much less a person, a hysteric or an idiot or a loony. that is reverent to the person not the idea, and for many, the idea is who they are. would i not stand up, and do, to anyone who would want to take evolution from schools or to even teach in schools the alternate - that the world was created in six days - durn right i would and do. but i am immersed in the deeply fundamental religious folks. i would no more call them loons for their ideas, tho letting them i know will and do counter them, than i would want them to stake me to a tree for being queer. the line that is drawn between ideas and what we will and won't stand for is not the same as dismissing any of our brethen. and surely not dismissing as loony or hysteric - the terms used for the farthest out - the people (mostly women and poor people) who have been committed away from society in the past. if i know someone well and we have a humor between us? we can laugh and use such terms, knowing it is meant in no harm. and to think people worry of the 'bitter' word. is a loony world these days. (insert winkie - and grin)
