No, they don't.

But they CERTAINLY have the statutory right to control and roadblock ALL RESEARCH that is proposed in AMERICA.

(Which is why research mostly only happens in Europe or Canada or such....)

As far as why the Big Pharma companies don't push for approval for more research, well, the reason is COMMERCIAL and very easy to understand.

Our patent laws do not permit the patenting of natural plants, herbal extracts and such. So... with all the roadblocks to basic research put up by Big Brother, and with little to no commercial profit potential... there is little research from either academics or from Big Pharma.
