Perhaps in your worlds calling highly respected opinions "looney" I don't call highly respected opinions "loony." Well, maybe a few religious ones, but I have been retrained in that regard and don't think I've done that in years. <g> Seriously, though, in my world people aren't as sensitive as some here and I forget that sometimes. People tend to be accustomed to, for example, after-action reports, which aren't always complimentary, or having discussions like the one you and I are having about our posting interactions and no one takes offense. I really do think that one should be able to use the word, "niggardly" when it's aptly applied. And "hysterical." "Loony," not so much.
