Given the fact that the exact tipping point can't be known, as any climatologist would acknowledge, it does make sense to take actions to cut emissions. It may well have an effect in time, or at least mitigate the damage.

We were talking about the "hysterics," the ones who claim the tipping point is absolutely imminent. That was the context of my remarks. If they are right and also honest and sane, they should be calling for either a space ship or filling all the pools with tequila. If we are already doomed, we could put our remaining life energy into something that will give us some value. Throwing it down the rat hole of emissions reductions is punitive, which may be what some of the most shrill voices really have in mind.

Here's my analogy. Locking the barn door after the horse is lost is fine because it doesn't really cost anything. Redecorating the barn is, er, loony.
