CDMA has an interesting history. It was developed by Hedy Lamar and her husband for the U.S. govt when WW2 broke out. The govt was looking for technology that would allow their commanders to communicate wirelessly and securely to their troops in the field or at sea. In layman's terms, Code Division doesn't break up wavelengths into bits like time division does, but rather rides the wave. This allows for 8 times the user on a particular frequency. This is why you'll have far fewer dropped calls on a CDMA system than you will on a GSM system.

Think analog TV vs Cable.

And wait until the phone is a computer in the pocket.

QUALCOMM will make it all possible.
