Here's a calculator where you can plug in the amount you paid in federal income tax and it will split it out for you and show you where it is going.

Of the $20,000 you paid in taxes:
$8,400 goes to Past and Current Military
$4,400 goes to Health
$2,000 goes to Interest on Non-Military Debt
$1,800 goes to Anti-Poverty Programs
$800 goes to Education, Training & Social Services
$800 goes to Government & Law Enforcement
$600 goes to Housing & Community Development
$600 goes to Environment, Energy & Science
$400 goes to Agriculture, Commerce and Transportation
$200 goes to International Relations

<<<If the tipping point is, indeed, near, then they are, indeed, wise in having recognized it. But their "hysteria" is misdirected. That's partly how we know it's hysteria. If the tipping point is where the most shrill voices claim it is, then why the call for initiating action that cannot possibly be effected in time? >>>

<<<I was just guessing for illustration purposes. It really doesn't matter what number you use. It's clearly more than ten years.>>>

You made up a number (uhh for illustration purposes) and then you say their "hysteria" based on your made up number (uhh for illustration purposes) is misdirected.

Don't know how long it would take China to replace all their smokestacks. It will be probably several decades for them to even consider doing it. Maybe in fifty years...

Actually, they are already considering it. They are now among the leaders in sequestration, recognizing its importance. They have an environmental disaster over there, and (belatedly) started recognizing it a couple of years ago. What they can do about it, and how quickly--those are the questions.
