Joking - absolutely nothing of which you list qualifies Gore as an expert on the science of Global Warming - absolutely nothing - especially being a US Senator or VP. I am sure you can name a Senators and VPs towards whom you feel the same.

To me, Al Gore's lack of scientific credentials are not an issue.

He is a spokesperson for a group of scientists, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

That's probably why he doesn't want to debate anyone on the subject of GW. He, himself, is not a climate expert, and thus would not make a good representative of the scientific community for that purpose.

However, there is nothing wrong with his speaking out on the subject as the representative of the IPCC. It's rather like Charlton Heston being the President of and spokesman for the NRA. He had no training in Consitutional law, but nobody questioned his qualification as a representative of the cause.
