Anything new won't be on-line for at least 10 years.

I believe there are wells in the Bakkan now. New ones coming in months. But more importantly forign oil is not running out. The papers try to make a big deal of the trade imbalance, but actually its not such a big deal as long as capital is brought in.

Yipes, that graph says something astonishing about total US demand. Look at 1970-1990 and the total rate of change of oil use. Early 70's were on a very steep increase. It actually fell in the early 80's and looks like it is falling now again. The end of civilization as we now it didn't happen before, so why do all the nitwits claim we can't change our consumption?

65 B BPD

Nit picking: 65 M BPD sounds more like it.

Wharf, there seem to be some problems with that graph:

1) Why don't we see the Arab oil embargo of 1973? Instead, we see a large drop in the early-mid 80's of imports. What caused that?

2) IIRC, the USA uses 20+M BPD. That graph looks like we are only using 15.

Something is off somewhere.
