Yes, I know that the whole "I invented the Internet" thing was based on a misquote repeated so often that a lot of people believed it.

And I agree that Gore is qualified to speak on scientific matters, though not as a scientist. There is nothing wrong with a scientific group using a politician as a spokesperson, particularly when the group's findings have political consequences.

That's in stark contrast to the long discredited "19,000 scientists" petition, where virtually all of the scientists involved were not qualified in the field of climatology. In that case, the implication was made that they had real expertise. Nobody has ever claimed that Al Gore is a climatologist.
