This is precisely what happened. The Soviets saw Carter's weakness as a clear sign they should move against Afghanistan. It is well-documented.

And the Soviets move into Afghanistan is, in effect, what created Bin Laden, as well.


And also brought down the Soviet Union. Clever move on the part of Carter.

Yep, he gave us the Taliban, Al Qaida, Khomeini, and Ahmadinejad. Plus it was the fall of the shah that gave Saddam the idea this was a period of Iranian weakness that he could exploit. So he invaded Iran and tried to annex some of their oil reserves, leading to an 8 year long war with over a million casulties.

Carter was a blight on the world.
