Sorry tejek.....I thought I replied to you but I guess I didn't press the send button. But thanks for posting the picture....it is indeed a picturesque photo of Mt. Carmel. The church (Polish Roman Catholic) that dominates the center of the photo is the one my family belonged to. The house I was born and raised in would be about one block to the left of the lower left corner. The town is almost exactly one square mile with streets laid out in checker board fashion named in the same sequence Phila streets are named. The satellite photos look good, but it's actually depressing to drive around...as I said there is about one bar and one church every block (a local exaggeration). Someone has put a website together with old photos of the mines and the oldest churches and buildings and a walking tour. There is no modern motel in town, and only one restaurant which has been there forever...not very good however. It's a different world.
