Thanks for the link to the Frontline presentation. Just watched it.

A couple of things struck me. One is that during the Japan segment they spoke of "healthy life span," which means that there are comparative data on it. I found this, but nothing comprehensive.

"For example, overall life expectancy in Japan is 84.7 years for women and 77.5 for men, versus a healthy life expectancy of 73.6 years for men and women."

It seems to me that the discussions that have been had about relative quality of health care systems speak of actual life span when maybe healthy life span would be more informative.

Another was the three minute standard session with doctors in Japan. I'm working up to a visit to my primary care physician. Haven't seen her in six months. It will probably take thirty minutes just to tell her what I've been up to for the last six months let alone whatever she will to in response. And I'm pretty good at getting directly to the point.

On the other end was the British primary care physician who said some lonely patients had multiple appts a week just for the company.

Overall, I thought it was a good show in that it showed a lot of variety, not so good in that it had a bit too much of an agenda, just a bit.

Yes, it seems I post invisible links fairly often. Sorry about that. This one is from John Fowler. Hopefully it's visible.
