It's really an eye opener. Some of the countries examined didn't have universal health care until recently, surveyed the world, and adopted parts from various systems, excluding one - ours. One of the interviewed foreign doctors had a heart attack on vacation in Las Vegas. Said the care was top notch, as it was in his own country, but the the bill was absurdly high - $67,000.

It should be called the "Screw you if your don't have insurance" thread I would change that to "Screw you if you choose not to have your own insurance, because most who don't make that choice. I encounter situations DAILY where individuals are fully qualified to receive Medicaid benefits, visit a physicians' office where they are told, "Your Medicaid is inactive; you need to get it updated" -- and they are seen anyway. A month later, they'll show up and still haven't bothered to call to get updated coverage. And (normally against my advice) they are seen again. The physician basically renders free service because he doesn't want to turn the patient away without care -- even though it is the patient's decision not to get it. I cannot begin to tell you how many times this scenario plays out each day in physicians offices in the four states I work in. It is totally routine. Now, you can call that "not having coverge", but I call it just not making an effort.
