A friend wrote down her stories for her family, and used a different method than year by year.....Luella had been a former teacher, and had a wonderful sense of humor....She has since passed on, and her children, grands, and greatgrands are so glad she took the time to do this....

She wrote stories of her parents and their parents telling about:

The place they lived....how it was built...the rooms in it...what else was in there...

Cooking on the ole' iron cook stove....what fuel they used...where did they keep the coal? How they told the temperature of the oven when there was none...

Water...how did it get into the house? "Buckets, son, Buckets"...and the stories from that...

What did they do without a refrig?

How did the farm work? Who planted?? Who watered and how? Who did the threshing? (What in the heck was threshing...she told us as readers, in case we didn't know...)

What did they do without bathrooms and indoor plumbing... What was an outhouse?

Clothes....who made them if there weren't nearby stores?

What if we were sick?

And all the other events of daily life.....

She cut pictures from some of the old Wards catalogs and some early magazines... She put in some early pictures of her family and told in a page or two some of the highlights of an event or two....

We all know that we are all born, and all die. The dates don't matter as much. But what does matter is the DASH inbetween the two dates.....

There is a poem about The Dash....
