Quite right Gib about the murder statistics and immigrant perceptions of NZ safety. But the immigrants who are keen to move here are not worried about the murder rate because they ARE the murder rate. If immigrant and Maori murders were taken out of the equation, the problem would be a lot smaller. Take out Polynesian too and the numbers shrink a lot more.

Also, murder is selective in the USA. In New Orleans, they have a high score. In New York, the score is greatly reduced these days. In Hawaii, the murder rate is low.

People with a high melanin content [aka African-Americans or more precisely, Negroes] are disproportionately involved in murder. But that's a poor correlation and a better one is low intelligence, low income/wealth, speaking ebonics, listening to rap, having a Y chromosome, with no caring and sharing father during childhood, who is listed in police files at age 16.

If the rest of my tribe would leave for another place, I'd go too. But on my own in Shangri-la would not be so good. I say Shangri-la because I haven't found places more suitable than Auckland during my travels, though in winter I'd prefer to be in warmer places. Mount Maunganui/Tauranga are pretty good. We did live there for 5 years.

Living somewhere is like voting for a political party. It's a matter of the best of a bad choice. Voting National doesn't mean one wants the born to rule mob in charge. Neither does voting Labour mean one wants to bring back Stalin and the USSR.
