The moderators are journalists who live in and thrive in the distractions game, 24/7. It's part of their being. So when a new little flapola appears, they pounce like hungry lions and tell themselves because all the other junkies are salivating, it must be "news".

That was the fatal mistake that ABC made last night. As I noted, Peter Jennings would not have stooped to that level. He knew better.

Today's journalists, I'm not so sure most of the time. First they enjoy watching and chattering about the roughing up, then tell everyone "It's just part of the game."

Never underestimate the power of profession groupthink and rationalizations.

I don't see any benefit of them being in the same room at the same time. A written question/timed presentation would work best for me. The tape could be edited to intersperse their responses.
