While it is a stretch, my concern is that the US may encourage Columbia to "again" engage an encursion in Equador (FARC insurgents) and see Venezuela (Chavez) step up (again) and agitate at the border of Equador and Columbia and allow Columbia to go on a major offensive. If that happens the US would probably rub their hands and go "all in" with Columbia and use the opportunity to pound Venzuela (payback for agitation and regional disruption) and "whack" Columbian drug cartels hard in the melee and pawn it off on Venezuelan meddling within Columbia.
The unwitting bagholder is the naieve Correo of Equador.
