Well you have seatbelts, right? Air bags? Headlights? Who do you think decides what cars are street worthy? Without that regulation there would be some pretty dangerous cars on the road. Changing CAFE standards is just a slight change in the overall regulation.

As far as fuel, they regulate the hell out of it on a regional basis. Which is pretty stupid.

Wake up. You already live in the USSA, the United Socialist States of America. Your libertarian paradise doesn't exist; the only real question is who are the winners and who are the losers on the various regulations.
