Economy and War trump health care in general. We will need more people to lose health care or not be able to get it or cant afford it before it becomes a big three type of issue.
McCain wins the economy with do no harm as opposed to obamas new seemingly left wing stance on things. McCain can win iraq if does what IKE did in 52 in korea. Reject the rt wing military solution and coopt peace by calling for timetables by any other name and putting pressure on maliki from a believable source.

The number who are uninsured for reasons other than (a) or (b) above is undoubtedly well below 5% of the population.

You are joking, of course. The number of uninsured and underinsured exceeds the 40 million most often quoted.

The main thing is that you don't throw out the best health care system in the world in an effort to pick up coverage for 5% of the people -- you just fix the problem.

Nobody is suggesting throwing out the "health care system". People are suggesting eliminating the inefficient, bloated and wasteful payment system. I'm not sure how you can say it's the best health care system when it's twice as expensive, doesn't rank on the top in effectiveness, and doesn't cover everyone.
