Folks on the right blamed: FDR for giving away europe to stali Truman for losing china and not wining in korea the left and msm for vietnam which was going just fine until they misreported all the US victories that were occuring (g) the left and msm for giving up on our successful op in iraq and so it goes. the left otoh falls into the trap by often taking what seem to be anti-US postions or seemingly rooting for failure even when there are glimmers of hope. A pox on both sets of wing nuts.
