Meanwhile, many are up-in-arms over teachers getting pink slips due to budget cuts.

They may have a point. CA ranks 46th out of 51 in per-pupil education spending, a statistic often cited by those in favor of increased education spending.

Of course, CA ranks 19th or 26th (depending on the source) in tax burden for the average citizen. See a disconnect?
