If ever a president deserved credit for lowering deficits

I don't deny that lowering deficits was part of his thinking. He had run on fiscal responsibility. That was one reason I voted for him.

I just think that "deficit hawk" is too strong. He was conspicuously interested in reducing taxes at the low end and sticking it to the beneficiaries of Reagan's tax cuts. If the deficit benefits, more the better, but that didn't drive it.
