So you would be arguing national debt is not important to the treasury and its policies?

I was hoping not to argue anything. I always prefer that those who make the assertion provide a rationale for that assertion.

If I were arguing, though, since it's unlikely any rationale will appear and it's useless to probe for it, I would be arguing that who was president at the time that the debt is at a particular level does not inform in any useful way the question of who gets the credit or blame for the state of the treasury. I could argue several different disconnects in there.
