Actually, the country is only at replacement rate.

But maybe, if we do need 3% a year additional capacity, it could be offset by conservation.

I do hope a new administration will come up with some reasonable conservation goals before starting the drumroll for expensive nuclear facilities or dirty coal-fired plants, etc.

I read somewhere about the tremendous total gas savings that could be had if everyone in the country kept their air pressure in their tires at proper levels.
