I don't think he can help being a bit of a clone. There's a circle the wagons mentality on the republican side- and they can't very well disown the commander and chief, when he's their guy.

I feel their pain :-)

But lately he seems to be morphing into a Bush clone.

I don't think he "seems" to be morphing. He has already with his support for Bush tax cuts and Iraq war. His biggest hole is his switching from voting against tax cuts to supporting it. He will have Obama cutting right through him on the tax cut issue just as he did with Hillary on Iraq.

And if McCain supports the cuts now, Obama would ask him if the tax cuts which were designed to provide the economic stimulus met its objectives or not. McCain would have a tough time defending the tax cuts in light of the stimulus package starting next month.

He has to to get the party behind him.

I found it sad to see McCain support the tax cuts he formerly denounced as irresponsible. The evidence is in, lol. They were irresponsible and did little to help the economy experts say.

I listen to Bernanke's testimony each month. Each time some Republican asks his opinion on more tax cuts to stimulate the economy. Each time Bernanke mumbles that tax cuts don't pay for themselves in economic growth and warns about the coming problems with SS and Medicare.

Then the next month it starts over, lol.

Remember - we need big savings just to get back to even. Getting back to even is totally lost in the discussion.
