I assume nothing. The case is far from proved. I have already granted the heavyhandedness and overreaction of the state.

What I am arguing is- well two things.
One, erring should be on the side of protection of minors. And once reported, an accusation must be acted upon. This person who is alleged to have false reported-- whether the authorities knew that or not is still unclear.
Two, there seems to be definite evidence that girls of 15 and 16 have born babies to older men. However you slice that, it's rape and it's wrong. Just because both polygamy and marriage to underage girls existed for hundreds of years is hardly a justification for allowing it. Witchburning, slavery, women as property, and child labor have had their day in the sun (or darkness).

So if the state's case for intervention falls apart, we are still confronted by the facts of these young girls with babies by older men.
