International law (which, by the way, the US Government is not in any way in disagreement about...) dictates the definition and the rules of the road.

(Although you are certainly free to reject anything that you want to, and adopt your own personal 'politically correct' definitions if it so pleases you. Just don't expect the nations of the world to care over-much about your private and personal definitions....)
