The data shows the deficit was closing up until this year.

There can be some issues with "trends" in short sequences. Sometimes they are better called anomalies.

THERE IS NO ARGUMENT THAT BUSH HAD BAD DEFICITS - NONE - GOT THAT!

And if you look at the chart you provided - the first Bush and Reagan too.

The data shows the deficit was closing up until this year. THAT IS CLEAR AND THAT WAS MY SIMPLE POINT!

You are taking a couple of years out and trying to pretend that it is some trend when in fact the trend is very negative. Add the off budget stuff and it just gets worse. You get a slight bump up during the ferocious housing boom - but that in no way validates fiscal magic because of lowering taxes. Why? Because an unsustainable housing boom - along with those win fall tax receipts - is now dust in the wind.
