<<<What inducements were cut?>>>

We have to be smart about inducements. We can't be throwing money around, but there are some smart things that could be done.

Europe, especially Germany and the Scandinavian countries heavily subsidize development in solar and wind energy development.

You have to be very careful in where you invest. You have to be very strategic in formulating policy. There is a role for the private sector and there is a role for government. There has to be a balance.

The problem is, there are too many people who think using slogans and/or rely solely on their glands.

Bob,

I seem to remember something about Bush/Cheney cutting the funding for alternative research by executive order or some such thing within the first couple of months of taking office.

I also remember that when I bought my hybrid vehicle in 2004, they were in the process of cutting the tax benefits associated with buying such a vehicle while the inducements for the giant monstrocities were still in effect.

One other point about budget deficits. If you really want to be intellectually honest about the deficit, you need to include the war spending. I would bet with that included, the deficit would not have been reduced at all during Bush 2.
