"not to mention the VA."

It wasn't that long ago that the VA was considered to be a model of how a well-run government agency can operate. Low overhead and quality care.

Things have changed, though.

Better question is whether the government has ever shown the capablity to run a bureacracy effectively? Hell, look at the US military, not to mention the VA. Universal health care is one thing theory and quite another in practice. In this case, might the cure be worst than the disease. I wonder.

First, the VA is actually government run 'health care', not a government run 'health insurance'. You have to separate the two... and most people don't want government run 'health care'.

The government is quite good at doing very repetitive tasks at low cost. It's when you ask them to get creative that you run into problems.
