We already have a way to do that. It's called insurance. That's the whole point of insurance is to spread risk around.

I'm somewhat fearful of the future as more and more of these will be coming, couple that with machines like the new 100 million dollar particle accelerator that can be used for cancer, along with the baby boomer deluge, and we have a serious situation in the near future. One of the differences between us and some other cultures like Japan is that we have higher expectations and demand more.

We will have a problem if we operate from the notion that everyone has a entitled to every treatment no matter how efficacious or how costly or how much it will improve the quality or length of their lives.

Since Japan clamps down on hospital costs, do they also on drugs???

Yes, that would be interesting to know.
