McCain's biggest vulnerability is his anger. He has displayed that even during this campaign, let alone in the Senate in past years.

A Obama-McCain debate strategy would be for Obama to get McCain angry. That clip of his on his campaign plane going head to head with a reporter would be played over and over again. Does he have the temperament to be President will be the question asked by a background voice in the ad.

He voted against tax cuts and he is now proposing tax cuts while at the same time proposing to continue the Iraq war. A voice in the background will ask; Hasn't this strategy been in play for the past 7 years and brought the country in the state we are in in?

If Carter can come out successful by negotiating with Hamas for Israel's right to exist, then it will be the biggest coup against the Bush Administration and McCain advocacy to find military solutions.

I think enough of positive anti-McCain scenarios without attacking McCain's age or other personal traits except his short fuse for which he and only he can be held accountable.

A McCain Obama campaign has a real chance to be different.

Agreed. Maybe if Obama gets the nomination, the two of them can agree on a pledge about the high road. The private groups will still smear and bash but it has a different tone when the candidate is not repeating it.

I'll hope for the best and not be shocked by the worst if it comes. The worst case really is nothing worse than we have today.

I was pondering the value of taking the gutter path while groaning at the gym today. Bush had the best bashing plan Rove had to offer but it didn't give him any special ability to outfox Putin or steamroll Congress except when he just ignored them. The lesson seems to be that winning elections by a whisker in a slimy campaign just brings us lower-caliber leaders in the long run.

<<<Nothing in the world would be better to me than a debate on the issues. It takes two to have such a debate.>>>

Can't happen. McCain has a lot of experience, but he does not have the the command of the issues. He has a poor knowledge base. Obama is a wonk in the making. He can talk all day long, but it comes only from position papers and text books.

McCain will be talking from talking points that his staff has prepared for him. They will teach him how to respond to keywords. McCain would like to take the high road, but should Obama embarrass him making him look bad, look for McCain to get down and dirty. I wouldn't be surprised if he resort to four letter words when cornered.

What kind of debate do you really expect? By now you should know what the positions of the candidates are. If you don't, they are not going to be able to say anything more to have you change your mind.
