the female of the species bears no more physical burden of pregnancy than the father.

More of a physical burden for 9 months. But the father can be forced to pay for the child, while the woman can choose to have an abortion. The disparity is a secondary issue to me (its not like I'm arguing the father should be able to force an abortion), the main overall issue to me is the rights of the child. The main issue relevant to the comment "As a MAN, I'm not sure it should really be any of my business", is that it would be like saying "as an man, rape of women is none of my business". Preventing abuse or death, is properly the concern of men as well as women.
