I always suspected that people who filed extensions got looked over more carefully for audit.

That is not the case. It's done with software that analyzes various entries on the return. If you trigger scrutiny, it doesn't matter whether you filed your return on Jan. 2, April 15 or October 15.

Maybe JDN would care to weigh in on this.
