I assume investment income is included in the formulas.

It's modified AGI. You take your AGI and add back various things that are not taxable like the income from tax-free munis. It's similar to the AMT ad-backs. That's the income they base it on.

So, if you're "wealthy," too <g>, here's the table from which you can do your planning.

It's not an enormous amount of money and, once again, I'm not complaining about personally having to pay it, I'm just disconcerted and annoyed by the conflicting standards for "wealthy."
