The one true candidate who understood a lot of these important issues was Ron Paul. He spoke the truth about everything from the Iraq War to things like the current account deficit.

Personally I'm too much of a liberal to buy into all of his Libertarian ideas but he really made sense to me almost every time I heard him speak.

Like to a person in denial Paul was probably too much truth for the American public to handle at one instant. Its a shame the way he was marginalized by the Republican establishment as a kook - he was anything but.

One thing that has got to end though is this attacking anyone who criticizes the status quo as "Un-American". For instance the question may not really be should we or should we not stay in Iraq - it could already be - and become more obvious as time goes by - that we cannot afford it. Blindly assuming that the US is so great it can do anything it wants for forever just adds nothing to real debate. Hubris was a theme in the most ancient of Greek tragedy - its an obvious mistake as old as mankind.
