My father was a wheat farmer and in the 19- Thirties they were Ripped of by the Corporate Grain companies who during the drought abbetted shortages simply by stored the grain until the prices went up for the buyers.
The farmers got together and created there own company to pool the marketing of their produce...The Saskatchewan Wheat pool.
Not sure how it has worked out in recent years..maybe they are doing the same as a Corporation ..albeit under the disguise of a Cooperative (on share one vote).?

But what I see now is the Financial Casino has infiltrated the food commodity markets with a lot of money with no where else to go and middlemen are hedging on food to make money...its a problem as these people do not add value to anything in real terms...and in real terms people die!

The Ghengis Kahns of today don't ride horses and rape and pillage communities....they do it through corporate financial vehicles usually locate in offshore tax havens and accomplish the similar results (screwing people) but on a global scale.
