That's why cloaking his unpopularity under "leadership" doesn't make sense to me. The strong leaders in the White House over the centuries eventually rallied people behind their causes and solutions.

Bush has just whittled away the capital he earned from 9/11 with no regard for genuine political leadership.

Hi Bridge, 95% of my friends are Republicans, most lifelong, multi-generation Republicans and thoroughly decent people if a little insular.

Many are painfully saddened by the record of the Bush administration....specifically the war and the amazing string of corruption and mismanagement.

The rest don't say much one way or the other.

My guess is most of them will sit this election out. They won't vote Dem but are open to seeing what a Democratic administration might actually do.

BTW, thank you for your list of advances made by the country during the last 25 years. As you pointed out, many can't really be attributed to a political party. There was one, though, reduced abortions, that the Reps should get lots of credit for raising the public consciousness on....and this pleases me personally. IMO, the public had become utterly cavalier about the numbers of abortions and the types of abortions, and I am grateful the Rs took on the issue.
