Your description of Bush's "base" is quite amusing.

His actual base consists of religious conservatives, social conservatives, and economic (tax, spend, regulation, free-market, deficit) conservatives. I suspect that more of the latter two have been disappointed by various aspects of his administration than have the religious conservatives.

Edit: I probably should have also included foreign policy hawks, who have obviously been disappointed least. Although Condi is trying her best.

Re the penal system contractors, I believe that you're barking up the wrong tree, there. Yes, it's a growth industry, but then so are alternate energy and healthcare. Doesn't mean there is something wrong with them.
