You mean just like there was a shortage of houses in USA for the last few years! The prices just kept going up as if US was running out of land.

Agreed. There's a hell of a lot more going on in ags than simple speculation. Food has been cheap (in the U.S. at least) for so long that it's taken as a 'given'. As Mish liked to point out. But it's not, and the ascent of China is rubbing that in our faces, and it ain't pretty but it's reality.
