Do you really think consumer inflation expectations are "contained"?

Perhaps by Weimar standards but they are skyrocketing now

stockfiend:I'm not sure how consumer inflation expectations can remain contained in this environment. Either we get wage inflation or a massive reduction in living standards.

koan: I think we get a massive reduction in living standards. I see very little to no wage inflation. During the great depression unemployment (I think) was 40%.

As we move into this recession/depression jobs are getting harder to get and the competition for jobs is increasing, which lowers wages.

The two areas I see flourishing in the US going forward are agriculture and coal production. Both mostly use unskilled labor which is plentiful. Manufactuing jobs are gone for the forseeable future.

And it doesn't help, IMO, that the unions have been destroyed in this country over the last 30 years----back to sweatshops.
